Delivery Day

Before your appliances can be delivered they will need to be paid for. Don’t leave that for delivery day or the delivery may be delayed. Also make sure the house is ready for the appliances to be delivered. Steps must be in place. It is pretty hard to hike a 500-800lb fridge or range up over one’s head and get it up where the stairs should be.

We once had a Subzero and 48” range go out to a home for delivery where there were no stairs and the customer figured the delivery men should be able to lift a 1000lb stove up 6 feet. Well that is not gonna happen. Another time we had a delivery out to a home where the appliances had to go to the kitchen through the balcony and that required a crane. The customer figured our trucks would have that equipment...NOT!!!. He figured we should supply one at our cost again that is not realistic. It is the customer’s responsibility to make sure the appliances will fit through the doors, and hallways and into the spots they will be set as well as making sure it is safe for the delivery staff to do the delivery.

Delivery Day is both exciting and stressful. Be sure to have all the paths clear to where the appliances will be set. Be sure to have an adult on hand for the delivery. All the appliances should be inspected thoroughly upon delivery. Once you have signed that they were delivered in good condition it will be next to impossible to put in a claim for cosmetic damage. Manufacturers will not usually warranty cosmetic damage once 24 hours has passed from delivery. The reason for this policy is due to the number of appliances which have been dinged and scratched by careless tradespeople. A careless plumber pulling a dishwasher or fridge in and out to install water and electrical can cause damage to flooring. So most dealers basically end all claims once the appliances are delivered or once 24 hours has passed to limit fraudulent claims.

So check your appliances for dings, dents, scratches and check the flooring for damage as well as walls before signing off on the delivery. It will save you many headaches. If an appliance is damaged It is often best to refuse it, if you really need it call the store before signing for it and have them make a record of the damage, also make note of the damage on any papers concerning the deliver and then sign.
